Short Answer Item # 1 - flaw(s)? The flaw is the use of too many blanks, and the wording is too confusing and complex it will confuse the students.

Evidence:
The Item Writing Guidelines states that a direct question is always better for a short answer question as opposed to filling in the blank. This short answer confuses a student, so the teacher should use a direct question instead. Commandment #4 states Thou shall not employ complex syntax in assessments. The set up of the statement is confusing and there are too many blanks to fill in.
